The 2019 Le Teil surface-rupturing earthquake along the La Rouvière Fault within the Cévennes fault system (France): What does paleoseismology reveal?

چکیده

The 2019-11-1, Mw4.9 Le Teil earthquake occurred within the NE termination of Cévennes faults system (CFS) in southern France, along La Rouvière fault (LRF), an Oligocene normal which was not known to be potentially active. This shallow moderate magnitude reversefaulting event produced a 5 km-long surface rupture and strong ground shaking. No evidence previous quaternary activity observed morphology, raising question whether had been reactivated for first time since or broken past without being detected morphology. To address this issue, we carried out paleoseismological investigations analyze characterize evidences paleo-ruptures Quaternary deposits. We discovered that at least one prior 2019, between 13.5 3.3 ka central part segment broke possible earlier surfacerupturing northern during 16th century. Further coupling sub-surface geophysical trenching are now segments LRF as well other CFS.

Foundation–structure systems over a rupturing normal fault: Part I. Observations after the Kocaeli 1999 earthquake

Triggered by reactivation of the strike-slip North Anatolian Fault, the disastrous Mw 7.4 Kocaeli (Turkey) earthquake also produced normal faulting in the pull-apart basin of Gölcük. Surface scarps from such faulting reached almost 2.5m in height. Several structures were crossed by the surface rupture. As expected, many of them either collapsed or were severely damaged. But, surprisingly, sever...

heterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings

from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...

Viscoelastic earthquake cycle models with deep stress-driven creep along the San Andreas fault system

[1] We develop a two-dimensional boundary element earthquake cycle model including deep interseismic creep on vertical strike-slip faults in an elastic lithosphere coupled to a viscoelastic asthenosphere. Uniform slip on the upper part of the fault is prescribed periodically to represent great strike-slip earthquakes. Below the coseismic rupture the fault creeps in response to lithospheric shea...

Detection of fault segments based on P–T dihedra analysis along the North Tabriz fault, NW Iran

Detection of fault segments is an essential step for tracking main transverse faults. General observations from field studies as well as attitude measurements can give an overall understanding of the lengths of the segments, but these are not always sufficient to accurately identify and characterize them. In this study, we analyze P–T dihedra variations based on their eigenvalues to detect faul...
